Content policy for reviews, photos and videos

Reviews, photos and videos help other travellers decide where to stop. A person reads or watches every one before it appears on the site. Here is what we publish, and what we don't.

Reviews

• Your own visit. Write about a place you have actually stayed at, parked at or used, and say roughly when (month and year). One review per place: you can edit it later, and the new version is checked again.
• Honest and useful. Access, height and length, noise at night, safety, cleanliness, services, prices and how busy it was are all useful. Criticism is welcome when it's about the place and fair.
• No conflicts of interest. Don't review a place you own, run, work for or compete with, and don't post reviews in exchange for money, discounts or free stays.
• No links, no contact details. Reviews can't contain web addresses, email addresses or phone numbers.
• No personal attacks. No insults, hate, harassment, threats, or naming or describing private individuals (staff, other guests, neighbours).
• Legal and safe. Don't encourage breaking local rules (for example camping where it's banned), and nothing illegal, sexual, violent or defamatory.

Photos and videos

• Only your own. Upload only photos and videos you took yourself, or that you have the right to share. Never copy pictures from other websites, apps or guidebooks.
• Of the place. Pitches, the access road, signs, services, the view. No selfies or group shots, and please avoid faces and number plates: if people can be recognised, we may reject the upload.
• Formats. Photos: JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Videos: MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 30 MB and 60 seconds. Each account can have up to 20 photos and 3 videos (200 MB) waiting or published.

How we check uploads

We are open about what our checks do and don't do:

• We accept a file only if its contents (not its name) prove it is one of the formats above. Everything else is refused, including SVG, HTML, PDF, archives, programs, animated images, and files that are two formats at once.
• Every photo is decoded and saved again as a new WebP image, at most 800 pixels wide. Only the pixels are kept: hidden data such as GPS location, camera details and anything else in the original file is removed. We never keep the original file.
• Videos are checked for a valid structure, size and length, but are published as you uploaded them (we can't re-encode video). If a video shows something private, trim it before you upload.
• These are format checks and image re-encoding, not a virus scan.

Moderation

• Nothing appears on the site until we approve it. Most checks happen within a few days.
• If we don't approve something, your account page shows the reason, and you can change a review and send it again. Rejected files are deleted at once; uploads we haven't been able to check within 30 days are deleted too.
• We may remove published content later if it breaks this policy, and suspend accounts that repeatedly do, or that post spam.
• We don't edit what you write, apart from removing invisible formatting characters. We don't publish only good reviews: fair, negative reviews are published like any other.

Your rights

You keep the copyright in what you post. You give us a licence to show it, as set out in the terms. You can delete any of your reviews, photos and videos, or your whole account, at any time from your account page, and download a copy of your data there.
